In one of the urban greening projects I led, inclusivity was achieved through a combination of spatial analysis, stakeholder engagement, and digital tools. We used GIS and AI-powered demographic mapping to identify underserved communities lacking access to green areas. Community input was gathered via mobile platforms with gamified surveys and augmented reality previews of proposed spaces. Design workshops included diverse voices—children, the elderly, and people with disabilities—to ensure universal accessibility. Modular and multifunctional green infrastructure was deployed to maximize limited space. This tech-enabled, participatory approach ensured the new green areas were equitable, usable, and community-driven.

Knowing the history and current geography of the city could be critical. The historical aspects can provide insight into who's been excluded from active city life and how that exclusivity occurred, as well as the mindset and values of the community. It could also aid in locating stakeholders including major funders. The current geography will provide insights into the current and potential of access to multimodal routes, potential additions to green spaces and access to them, current and potential future zoning scenarios, and proximity to the various types of community spaces (business districts, parks, libraries, schools, government centers. Rail trails have utilized rights of way with planning and design adding to their aesthetics.
