However, in my experience managing diverse interdisciplinary teams across Latin America and Europe, one fundamental aspect is missing: clearly defining the team’s mission, vision, and targets in simple, accessible language. To achieve this, it’s crucial to involve team members in the definition process. As a leader or company representative, you provide the guidelines, but it is the team that will enrich, unify, and empower everyone with a shared spirit from the very beginning.

One thing I have discovered that promotes effective communication in interdisciplinary team meetings, is to ensure each member has an opportunity to be heard. Establishing an agenda with time limit expectations, and offering to have a separate meeting for discussions can help respect the time of others and allow everyone to be heard. It's important to note there will always be one or more team members who overshare, or who are not self-aware of the length of time they are taking. Assigning a time keeper who is proactive and professional can help these circumstances by getting the meeting back on track. Each team member needs to be shown they are valued and heard. If you neglect these opportunities, you will lose good employees.
