The biggest thing I have learned is before you blame technology find out what the real issue/challenge is. Technology may only be a very small part of a bigger challenge. I have seen it way too often that organisations will chop and change from technology to technology before they have looked at and analysed all elements of the fundraising campaign only to find they face the same or similar challenges the following year. Technology is only one piece of the puzzle… stop and look at the big picture and adjust ALL of the pieces that don’t fit.

To overcome technical hurdles in online fundraising, I focus on three key areas: Identify & Fix Issues: I use analytics to detect problems in payment processing, website speed, or UI. Seamless Payments: Integrating UPI, Google Pay, and one-click donations reduces friction. Optimize User Experience: A mobile-friendly site with a smooth donation flow boosts conversions. Leverage AI & Automation: AI-driven chatbots assist donors, and automated follow-ups improve engagement. Ensure Security & Trust: SSL certificates, two-factor authentication, and impact stories build donor confidence. By combining tech and strategy, I ensure a hassle-free fundraising experience.

Instead of just fixing problems, use technology to elevate your fundraising. If donations are dropping due to friction, try one-click giving or Apple Pay/Google Pay integrations to remove barriers. If engagement is low, use AI-powered insights to analyze donor behavior and personalize follow-ups. If people hesitate before donating, embed impact-driven videos or testimonials directly on the donation page. Technology isn’t just about preventing issues, it’s about enhancing donor trust and experience. The smoother, faster, and more engaging your fundraising platform is, the more likely people are to contribute.

If I were facing technical hurdles in an online fundraising campaign, the first step would be figuring out exactly what’s going wrong. Is it payment failures, a glitchy platform, or a bad user experience? Once that’s clear, I’d look for immediate fixes. If a payment gateway is acting up, having alternative options like UPI or wallets can help. Sometimes, it’s not even a technical issue but a frustrating checkout process that makes donors drop off, so testing the user experience is crucial. Instead of trying to solve everything myself, I’d get tech support involved as quickly as possible—no point in wasting time if the platform’s team can fix it faster.

To overcome technical hurdles in online fundraising, I first identify and troubleshoot key issues—whether platform limitations, user experience barriers, or security concerns. I optimize donation processes by simplifying steps, ensuring mobile-friendliness, and improving load speeds. Leveraging alternative payment methods increases accessibility. I collaborate with IT and support teams for real-time issue resolution and conduct A/B testing to refine the approach. Clear donor communication, FAQs, and live support reduce friction. By staying agile and data-driven, I ensure a seamless experience that maximizes engagement and contributions.

Start with a solid foundation: Before signing any contracts, I make sure to thoroughly vet vendors. This includes checking their track record, financial stability, and alignment with our sustainability goals. I also ensure their values match ours, especially when it comes to environmental and social responsibility. Set clear expectations upfront: I always define the scope of work, deliverables, and timelines in detail. This avoids misunderstandings later. For example, if we’re working on a cloud migration, I specify the expected uptime, security protocols, and support response times. Build a partnership, not just a transaction: I treat vendors as partners rather than just suppliers. This means fostering open communication and mutual resp

Overcoming technical hurdles in online fundraising requires a proactive approach. Start by diagnosing the root cause—whether it’s platform instability, payment gateway failures, or poor user experience. Work closely with tech support or developers to resolve backend issues quickly. Optimize website performance by ensuring fast load times, mobile responsiveness, and a frictionless donation process. Implement alternative payment options to prevent donor drop-offs. Use real-time monitoring tools to detect issues early and conduct regular testing before major campaigns.

Two of the most common hurdles I have found with online fundraising, is that firstly the message is pushed to the user without context. For example, if you chance on to a website and before you can get to content seeing a donate now popup can be a turn off. Secondly, sometimes the online tools are not intuitive or clear. I recommend both testing out the online tools and also getting feedback on user experiences to ensure that we are able to completely harness the potential of the online advertising.

When experiencing adversity related to technology, I always revert to the mission behind the fundraising. What do the fundraising efforts allow you to do? What positive impact does the money create? Whose lives are most positively impacted. Drawing from this meaning and purpose, every adversity becomes a new learning experience to fulfill unmet needs, to grow your team's knowledge and experience, and innovate new solutions to the challenge. This creates relentless commitment, creative solutions, and team cohesion whenever adversity rears its head. It also fuels the motivation to get difficult tasks done and solved.
