External factors need to be looked into as well, ie what the sudden influx? Addressing upstream issues will help ease the situation provided those external parties are willing to cooperate. I have had engagements with external parties to understand their situation and mid points can be met. Then, there is a downstream process that we need to address such as efficient bed management, scaling down elective cases to create more bed space and stepping down patients to smaller community hospitals nearby.

I recommend prioritizing patients by severity to ensure critical needs are met swiftly. Effective delegation is key, with administrative staff pre-assessing clients to streamline intake alongside calling for extra personnel when needed, maintains operational efficiency. Clear communication and regular updates prevent confusion, fostering team cohesion. Post-surge debriefings are essential for identifying areas for improvement and refining protocols. To manage personal stress, short breaks are crucial for resetting and preventing burnout during the surge. Outside of work, prioritizing self-care through adequate rest, proper nutrition, and stress-reducing activities is essential for maintaining long-term resilience and well-being.
