I’d start by understanding each team member’s priorities and concerns through an open discussion. Then, I’d align our goals, identify common ground, and set clear priorities. If necessary, I’d explore creative solutions like reallocating tasks, optimizing workflows, or finding alternative resources. Keeping communication transparent and encouraging collaboration over competition would be key. If conflicts persist, I’d involve leadership for guidance while ensuring fairness in decision-making.

The first priority is making sure your team has what they need to succeed. If they say they need 1, 2, and 3 to get the job done—listen, then find a way to deliver. “Limited resources” often becomes an excuse, and excuses breed more excuses. If capital is the issue, reach out to a trusted source (shameless plug: Legacy Money Tree). We've helped business owners access funding for everything from working capital to semi trucks and investment properties. Solving resource gaps is how you empower your people and grow.

When teams clash over scarce resources, effective leadership means taking decisive action: Create a judgment-free space where team members can express their needs and concerns openly. Align resource allocation decisions with strategic priorities rather than personalities or politics. Challenge your team to identify creative alternatives or compromises that might not be immediately obvious. Communicate your decisions transparently, explaining the reasoning even when the outcome disappoints some team members. I've found that resource conflicts, when handled well, actually strengthen teams by clarifying priorities and fostering innovative problem-solving.

If my team is struggling over resources, I would start by discussing everyone’s expectations. I would figure out what’s most important and find a fair way to share, whether that means taking turns, teaming up, or adjusting priorities. I would be upfront about decisions so no one feels sidelined, and if we hit a roadblock, I wouldn’t hesitate to loop in senior management. Most importantly, I would keep checking in and making adjustments to keep things running smoothly.

If your team is clashing over limited resources then you are part of the problem and the solution. You either reduce the targets and/or increase timeliness including setting priorities based on resources available or find a way to bring more resources into your teams. While there is always room for optimization when the problem is accute no efficiencies will resolve the underlying issues. If not careful then you are risking going into a downhill moral spiral and start to loose people and createva toxic environment. A good leader will try to prevent this or address it very early

I would facilitate a direct discussion to understand each team's needs and priorities, collaboratively explore alternative solutions and resource allocation strategies, and make a transparent decision based on overall project goals and impact.
