Tensions will mount and poor communication will most likely lead to underperformance. 5. Unrealistic deadlines and micromanagement drive down workplace efficiency. 6. Collect performance data, on a monthly or quarterly basis. Identify which tasks are lagging and the potential causes. Set up realistic measures to solve these instead of mere blaming the people involved.

The very simple answer is just train the staff to understand the actual process of health care. Health care should never be based on numbers. Electronic records are already in place and it has its own lags and delays in dispatching patients. Despite of all the new changes, there is no system in place for the doctors orders are executed in time and automated way. Adding up untrained staff is not the answer. Remember putting electronic notes by medical staff is equally time consuming for them as they are not trained in it. IT people think others can understand what they want but reality is others do take longer. Unified system through out is the only way out to reduce admin delay's as well as reducing dependancy on non medical staff.

Efficiency starts with the initial phone call with the human touch. The most needed improvement is to have enough trained staff to provide adequate support when addressing patient needs and providing patient education. (Stop the robot calls.) Patients need to be educated on the unknown factors such as referral, copay, out of pocket costs that causes claim/insurance reimbursement delays. Patients need to be aware of the needs and the cost of each appointment so that there is a mutual understanding of what is expected during a visit. Without this, you will find that a lot of patients will not pay a costly medical bill that he/she did not expect to have to pay. Insurance company also has to be more transparent with reimbursements.

In my experience healthcare management is usually a complex topic, especially in big practices. Clinicians do not have the time or expertise to deal with it efficiently. For this reason, employing a well-trained and experienced healthcare manager is a very good investment. She will base her strategic actions on the mission and vision of the practice making sure that no "lagging behind" takes place. Having someone to prevent and deal with administrative problems can boost staff engagement, productivity and patient satisfaction.

There are no two ways to this. The use and implementation of EHR will go a long way to help all healthcare admin staffs that are behind. I have seen it work magic in my practice. It makes work so easy. All admin staffs must be trained regularly. It's just the hard but only way .

Start within your own team. Look for ways to make it better, sell it, collaborate and do it. Then you will have momentum for taking the next steps outside your team, and you will have successes to back you up. Every large advancement starts with a small step. State your goal with details, keep your focus and create a loop process of reviewing, adjusting and implementing throughout the life of your initiative.
