Katie Taylor retains her title at the World Boxing Championship in China.

Facing the Chinese lightweight champion Cheng Dong, twenty two year old Katie Taylor showed her skill to get the fight off to a fast start. It was the third round before the Chinese boxer scored a point by that stage, there was little doubt about the outcome of the fight.

The result, 13 points to 2.

After successfully defending her world title, Katie Taylor is now looking to the London Olympics in 2012. Hopes are now high that women will be able to compete in boxing at the Olympic Games. If so, Katie Taylor could be Ireland's best hope for a gold medal.

The fighter herself believes that by 2012, she will be at her peak and is confident of winning a gold medal.

The Amateur International Boxing Association is confident that women will box in London.
