"I had forgotten about the pheasant. He came every winter and hid in the thickets of dogwood where large animals could not get at him.
Although the cats would be supple enough to venture in, if they were brave enough to challenge him.
But the pheasant was reasonably safe, and well fed, because we tended to him, scattering seeds beneath the bird feeder. It was a joy to watch him strutting on Christmas Day..."
