The death has occured of Irish artist Trevor Geoghegan.
A painter of renown, Trevor Geoghegan was acclaimed for his landscape works in particular.
In a prolific career lasting five decades, he exhibited his work at a number of prominent Irish galleries, and represented Ireland internationally.
Born in London in 1946, Geoghegan attended the Worthing College of Art in Sussex, and graduated from London's Chelsea School of Art, before settling in Ireland in 1971 at Blessington, Co. Wicklow, the village where his father had originally emigrated from.
In a prolific career lasting five decades, he exhibited his work at a number of prominent Irish galleries, and represented Ireland internationally.
He also featured on a number of RTÉ arts programmes, including Exhibit A, The Arts Show and Arts Express.
His paintings feature in several major collections, among them The Arts Council, AIB, the Dept. Of Justice, the Merrion Hotel, Dublin, the Jefferson Smurfit Group, USA, Áras an Uachtaráin, Irish Life P.L.C., Iarnrod Eireann and the Irish Contemporary Arts Society.
His work is also represented in private collections in Ireland, the USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, Hungary, England and Scotland.
In recent years he had divided his painting time, equally between his Wicklow studio and the Burren area of Co. Clare.
He also held a teaching position at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Dublin.
Trevor Geoghegan's passing was announced by his son Colm. He is survived by by his wife, Helen, son Colm, daughter Sinead, and grandchildren Adam, Abby, Leah and Lucy.
