The RTÉ Choice Music Prize will be back in 2024, continuing its role in championing new Irish music and celebrating Ireland's formidable musical talent.
The key dates for 2024's event were announced today on RTÉ 2FM’s Tracy Clifford Show.
Three new prizes introduced last year will be awarded once again in March – Irish Artist of the Year, Irish Breakthrough Artist and Classic Irish Album.
Last year's Classic Irish Album winner was Sinead O'Connor, who made what was to be her final public appearance to accept an award for her 1990 classic I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.
The Choice Music Prize has become one of the music-industry highlights of the year since its inception in 2005. The Irish Album of the Year prize is chosen from a shortlist of ten albums by a panel of eleven Irish music media professionals and industry experts; previous winners inclide For Those I Love, Denise Chaila, Lankum, Soak, Villagers and The Divine Comedy.
The winning Album Of The Year act will receive €10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA)
Last year's Choice Music Prize winners included an Album Of The Year prize for CMAT's If My Wife New I’d Be Dead (AOTY), with Moncrieff's Warm voted Song Of The Year, Fontaines D.C. named Irish Artist of the Year and Cian Ducrot awarded Irish Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
