Once, deep in the National Library, I was researching the death and funeral of Daniel O'Connell and in The Freeman's Journal I found this notice, which for me became a poem - a found poem that I called 'Who We Were: Daniel O'Connell's Funeral Cortege 1847'.

Drawn by six horses and led by mutes,

O'Connell’s Triumphal car in mourning

is to be supported by the Vice-Presidents

and Committee of the Trades Unions...
