TripAdvisor has revealed its round up of the 25 top-reviewed Irish hotels on the site, in its annual 'Best of the Best' list.
Travel site publishes its lists of the top-rated hotels, restaurants, spas, and more each year, based on reviews left by users of the site. They studied 12 months of data from real travellers, with fewer than 1% of the site's 8 million listings going on to be awarded a 'Best of the Best' nod.
Each winner had passed its rigorous trust and safety standards, according to the TripAdvisor website.
Emerging at the top of that list is Ashford Castle in Cong, Co. Mayo, with over 3,000 5-star reviews. Writing about the majestic property, the editors said: "As Ireland's first and only Forbes Five Star Hotel and the former home of the Guinness family, Ashford Castle is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
The sprawling 800-year-old stone castle is set on a 350-acre estate and has hosted everyone from The Prince of Wales (who later became King George V) to President Ronald Reagan.
In second place was The Merrion Hotel in Dublin's elegant Georgian quarter. Located just a few minutes walk from Grafton Street and made up of a series of townhouses, it includes 142 bedrooms and suites overlooking a courtyard.
The Merrion is notable for its foodie offering: it also includes the two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, as well as The Garden Room Restaurant and The Cellar Bar. There's also The Merrion Spa and Health Club featuring an 18m pool and treatment rooms.
Rounding out the top three was The Killarney Park, a five-star destination in the heart of Killarney, Co Kerry. Founded in the 1930s, it remains the only 5-star hotel in Killarney and has expanded to include a full spa and the brand-new Peregrine Restaurant.
