It's not surprising that BYD has decided to drop the full Build Your Dreams badging from its European models, given the number of eyebrows its dominance raised from customers when they saw it on their tailgates.
Certainly, some comments I received suggested potential owners didn’t appreciate what they perceived was the less than subtle badging emblazoned across the rear of the car.
What is more surprising is how fast the decision was made. I don’t think many car companies would make such a significant decision so fast but companies like BYD aren’t had hanging around when it comes to building market share in Europe as fast as possible.
Auto Express magazine reports Tim Bryant, BYD’s European Customer Experience Manager, as saying the new Seal model will be simpler and cleaner, as a direct result of customer feedback. "I’m pleased to say that we’ve listened to customer feedback and thanks to our rapid supply chains, Seal models for Europe will have discrete badging," he said.
At the moment, the only BYD model on sale here is the Atto 3, which has the full badging but this is already being phased out. The entry model Dolphin has the full name stamped into the tailgate, so that will remain for the foreseeable future.
BYD will soon be launching two electric versions of its Seal model, a saloon and a mid-sized SUV. The company says the SUV will carry five in comfort and will offer up to 420 km of range from its 72 kWh battery. It will arrive here early next year.
