Thanks to its soaring sea cliffs, myriad of beaches, and ancient forts, Donegal has been named as the fourth-best region to visit by Lonely Planet.

The leading travel media company unveiled the accolade in their 'Best in Travel 2024' publication, listing some of the world’s "hottest trends, destinations and experiences for the coming year".

Coming ahead of País Vasco in Spain and the Swahili Coast of Tanzania, Donegal was dubbed the best-kept secret on the Wild Atlantic Way thanks to the jaw-dropping beauty of Sliabh Liag, Silver Strand, Malin Head, and Fintra Beach.

Sliabh Liag

"Ireland and more than 100 beaches, you may find yourself the only person on a deserted strand in Donegal. The northernmost Irish county is purely wild with a big heart. Here you'll find the highest sea cliffs in Europe and miles of unspoilt coastal hiking trails along the Wild Atlantic Way. Ancient forts, musical traditions and rich heritage of the Irish language also make it perfect for the curious visitor."
