Flogas Enterprise has signed a deal with Slane Irish Whiskey which will see the energy company supply the distillery with renewable electricity.
The Corporate Purchase Power Agreement (CPPA) will result in power being supplied to the facility from Cronalaght windfarm in Co Donegal.
The distillery has a target of having 100% of its electricity come from renewable sources by 2030.
The deal will result in 60% of Slane Irish Whiskey's energy demand being met from wind.
"This new Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with Flogas Enterprise will support our commitment to using energy that is sustainable and renewable, and this is another step in meeting our sustainability goals," said John O’Reilly, Financial Analyst at Slane Irish Whiskey.
CPPA are increasingly being used by companies to source renewable power and involve the business signing an agreement directly with the developer of the energy project.
The distillery, which is located on the grounds of Slane Castle, has also installed solar panels on site, as well as a range of other sustainability solutions, such as rainwater collection and heat recovery.
