A historic Croke Park fight would be the fitting way for Katie Taylor to round out a unique boxing career, says Eric Donovan.

Taylor said that Saturday’s victory at 3Arena over Chantelle Cameron was the highlight of her pro career, avenging May's defeat at the same venue.

On what might come next, the 37-year-old was clear that she would love a big fight at Croke Park, with Cameron her likely opponent once more.

The GAA told RTÉ Sport in February that the cost of security at the venue would be too high after Matchroom had claimed that using Wembley Stadium would only cost a third of the north Dublin venue.

There has not been a fight staged on Jones's Road since Mohammad Ali beat Al 'Blue' Lewis in a non-title exhibition in 1972, in front of just 19,000 paying spectators.

Taylor has made no secret of her desire to fight at Croke Park

Donovan, who won the EBU super-featherweight title last year aged 37 before retiring six weeks later, says that if retirement is on the horizon for the Bray woman, a bout at GAA headquarters would be a fitting finale for one of the greatest sportspeople the country has ever produced.

"I think he (Eddie Hearn) really wants to get the help and support here to make this dream a reality for Katie," he told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland. "It would be sensational."

"The 3Arena is a fantastic arena, but the costs of the tickets are very, very high. Katie Taylor has a reach.

"She has the appeal that crosses over to even non-boxing people. She would make a great attempt at putting out a huge crowd in Croke Park. I don’t know if it would be a sell-out, possibly could, but definitely 50,000, 60,000 people…I would love to see it happen.

"She has achieved everything, probably more than she could have ever even imagined. Not many people get to say, 'I completed boxing’.

"I think Katie Taylor has the right to be able to say that. I think Croke Park would be a great send off if she could go that way.

"It would be a great pairing, Croke Park and Katie Taylor and off into the sunset."
