A woman is being treated in hospital after suffering injuries during an incident where her car was allegedly stolen in Co Roscommon.
The woman, aged in her 70s, had been shopping at a store in Castlerea yesterday evening when the incident happened.
At around 5.30pm, a man approached her vehicle before allegedly entering it and driving off.
The woman is being treated for her injuries at Sligo University Hospital.
Gardaí have confirmed that the suspect has been identified on CCTV footage and have begun taking witness statements as part of an investigation.
The man who allegedly stole the vehicle has been described as middle-aged, of strong build with dark hair.
He was wearing a black coat, blue jeans and brown shoes at the time of the alleged incident.
The car has been described as a 08 RN-registered red Volkswagen Fox.
A garda spokesperson said: "From examining CCTV and taking witness statements, a potential suspect has been identified.
"The investigation is being progressed with the valuable assistance from the people of Castlerea."
Local Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice described the incident as "a terrible act".
He said: "I believe she was hurt in the incident, and I wish her a speedy recovery.
"I am very sorry for her and her family that this happened, and it's a terrible thing to happen in Castlerea.
"I hope he is caught, and I hope gardaí apprehends this person and retrieves the lady’s car as quickly as possible."
