Minster for Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe is in the United States for a series of meetings with senior government and Central Bank officials, including the US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Mr Donohoe is making this visit primarily as President of the Eurogroup, to meet with counterparts in the US.

Discussions are expected to focus on the state of the global economy, including the European and US economic outlooks, global financial stability and continued support for Ukraine as it faces a third year of war with Russia.

Mr Donohoe's visit comes as President Joe Biden’s request to congress for some $60 billion in Ukraine linked spending has been backed in the Senate, but still faces obstacles in the House of Representatives, which is expected to return to the issue in early December.

Mr Donohoe will meet Ms Yellen, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and White House economic advisors Lael Brainard and Jared Bernstein.

He is also due to meet the Congressional Friends of Ireland caucus.
