    I approach this tension as a collaboration opportunity, not a zero-sum game. First, I’d have a candid conversation with the employee to understand their growth drivers—are they seeking skills, visibility, or career progression? Then, I’d map overlaps between their goals and team objectives (e.g., upskilling in a way that fills team gaps). If alignment isn’t immediate, I’d explore flexible solutions like stretch assignments that serve both purposes, or temporary role adjustments. Transparency is key.!
