- [Instructor] We've looked at the multiply and screen blend modes. Now, let's look at overlay. When using overlay or soft light, the colors interact based on brightness and saturation. The lights get lighter and the darks get darker. For that reason, I have the colors on a neutral background. Note that the blending options will work best when the document color mode is RGB. And on the transparency panel, I need to see my options. So if you don't see these options, come and choose Show Options from the panel menu. I'll move now to my second art board where everything is in its starting state. We're using the first example as our control. This is the normal blend mode. On the second example, I'll select those two letters, and we'll change to overlay. The two shapes, they're interacting with each other, and they're also interacting with the background.
